The Pittsburgh Steelers saw their 2025 season fade away under the bright lights of January, as a humiliating 30–6 Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans extended the franchise’s postseason misery to seven consecutive defeats. Aaron Rodgers Noncommittal After Disastrous Playoff Performance

Rodgers entered the season openly acknowledging that 2025 could be his final year. However, following the loss, the future Hall of Famer avoided making any emotional declarations.

“I’m not going to make any emotional decisions,” Rodgers said. “It’s disappointing, obviously, but this year meant a lot to me.”

If this does prove to be Rodgers’ final NFL game, it would be an unceremonious ending to a legendary career. His final pass was intercepted by Calen Bullock, who returned it 50 yards for the first playoff pick-six Rodgers has ever thrown.

Statistically, it was the worst postseason outing of Rodgers’ career. He finished 17 of 33 for 146 yards, one interception, and a 50.8 passer rating—all career postseason lows.

Texans Capitalize as Steelers Fall Apart Late

Interestingly, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud struggled as well, fumbling five times and throwing an interception. However, the Steelers failed to capitalize on Houston’s mistakes.

Although the Texans led just 10–6 entering the fourth quarter, the game unraveled quickly for Pittsburgh. Houston exploded for 23 fourth-quarter points, including a decisive defensive touchdown when Will Anderson Jr. and Sheldon Rankins combined for a sack. Rankins returned the fumble 33 yards for a score.

Notably, Houston became the first playoff team since 1940 to score multiple defensive touchdowns while allowing none.

Rodgers Defends Tomlin Amid Growing Criticism

Despite the loss, Rodgers strongly defended Tomlin and criticized modern NFL discourse, calling speculation about elite coaches “absurd.”

“This league has changed a lot,” Rodgers said. “When you start questioning guys like Mike Tomlin or Matt LaFleur, it says more about the culture around the league than the coaches themselves.”

Rodgers emphasized that strong leadership and culture should outweigh reactionary outside pressure—a sentiment that resonated with many around the organization.

What Comes Next for the Steelers?

Rodgers finished the regular season with 3,322 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, missing one start due to a broken wrist. He helped Pittsburgh win four of its final five games, showing flashes of elite play despite age and injury.

Reports indicate the Steelers would welcome Rodgers back if he chooses to continue playing in 2026. However, the quarterback remains noncommittal.

“I’m not going to talk about that right now,” Rodgers said when asked about returning.

As for Tomlin, he offered few words to his team after the loss.

“It’s not time for talk,” he said. “You win or you go home.”

Once again, the Steelers went home early.
