ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: India vs Pakistan Thriller, USA Shine, West Indies Seal Super 8 Spot

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 continues to deliver high-octane action as West Indies marched into the Super 8 unbeaten, USA boosted their campaign with a commanding win, and India posted a record total against Pakistan in Colombo.

This round of fixtures has reshaped group standings and intensified the race for qualification.

India vs Pakistan: Record Total in Colombo

The marquee clash between India national cricket team and Pakistan national cricket team lived up to expectations at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

After Pakistan opted to field, captain Salman Agha surprised many by opening the bowling. His gamble paid off immediately as he dismissed Abhishek Sharma for a duck, conceding just one run in the first over.

However, India bounced back strongly. Ishan Kishan delivered a breathtaking performance, smashing 77 off just 40 balls, including three sixes and 10 fours. His aggressive yet calculated knock powered India to 175/7 — the highest total ever recorded in an India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup contest in Colombo.

Pakistan fought back through leg-spinner Saim Ayub, who dismissed Kishan and then removed Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya in successive deliveries, narrowly missing a hat-trick. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Tariq, and Agha chipped in with wickets to slow India’s momentum.

Suryakumar Yadav (32) and Tilak Varma (25) stabilized the innings during the middle overs, while late cameos from Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh ensured India crossed the 170-run mark on a slow surface where Pakistan deployed six spin options.

India also strengthened their bowling attack by including Kuldeep Yadav in place of Arshdeep Singh, signaling their intent to exploit spin-friendly conditions in Colombo.

USA Register Convincing Win Over Namibia

Meanwhile, the United States national cricket team continued their impressive run with a 31-run victory over the Namibia national cricket team in Chennai.

Batting first, USA posted their highest-ever T20 World Cup total — 199/4. Captain Monank Patel and Shayan Jahangir laid a solid foundation with a 68-run opening stand in just 41 balls. USA raced to 65/0 in the powerplay, showcasing fearless intent.

Patel also achieved a personal milestone, becoming the first US batter to score 1000 T20I runs during his half-century.

Despite wickets from Willem Myburgh and Gerhard Erasmus, the USA middle order accelerated again. Sanjay Krishnamurthi stole the spotlight with a blistering 68 off 33 balls, striking six sixes and four boundaries. Alongside Milind Kumar (28), he added 87 runs for the fourth wicket in just 47 balls.

Namibia responded aggressively, scoring 57/1 in the powerplay. Louren Steenkamp kept hopes alive with a fluent 58, while JJ Smit contributed 31 down the order. However, disciplined bowling — led by Shadley van Schalkwyk (2/30) — ensured USA restricted Namibia to 168/6.

This win keeps USA firmly in contention for the next stage.

West Indies Confirm Super 8 Berth

Two-time champions West Indies cricket team secured their Super 8 qualification with a dominant nine-wicket victory over the Nepal national cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Nepal, put in to bat, struggled early and slumped to 22/3 in the powerplay — the lowest first-six-over score in T20 World Cup history. Akeal Hosein, Matthew Forde, and Jason Holder dismantled the top order with disciplined spells.

Holder was exceptional, claiming 4/27, including a remarkable opening spell of 2/4. Nepal eventually posted 133/8 after recovering from 46/5, thanks to Dipendra Singh Airee’s resilient 58 off 47 balls and valuable support from Sompal Kami (26*).

In response, West Indies chased the target comfortably, reaching 134/1 in just 15.2 overs. Brandon King fell for 22, but Shai Hope (61*) and Shimron Hetmyer (46) ensured there were no further hiccups.

This comprehensive win marked West Indies’ third consecutive victory, placing them at the top of Group C with six points and confirming their status as serious title contenders.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 continues to produce thrilling encounters and standout performances. India’s record-setting innings against Pakistan, USA’s explosive batting display, and West Indies’ dominant qualification highlight the tournament’s growing intensity.

With the Super 8 stage approaching, momentum and consistency will be key as teams battle for global T20 supremacy.
