Urvil Patel fastest IPL fifty

Urvil Patel’s Record Fifty Powers CSK Into IPL 2026 Top Five

Chennai Super Kings produced one of the most thrilling run chases of IPL 2026 after defeating Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets at Chepauk. The night belonged to Urvil Patel, who smashed a sensational 13-ball half-century and equaled the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history.

CSK successfully chased 204 runs and climbed to fifth place on the points table. The victory also marked their first successful 200-plus chase since 2018. Fans at Chepauk witnessed a memorable performance from one of the franchise’s rising stars.

Urvil Patel Equals IPL Fastest Fifty Record

Urvil Patel entered the crease when Chennai Super Kings were 45 for 1 in the fourth over. The required run rate looked challenging, but the 27-year-old batter completely changed the momentum of the match.

He hammered seven sixes and one four to reach his fifty in only 13 deliveries. With this knock, Patel matched the IPL record set by Yashasvi Jaiswal in 2023 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Patel eventually scored 65 runs from 23 balls with eight sixes and two boundaries. His fearless batting stunned the Lucknow bowlers and electrified the Chepauk crowd.

After reaching the milestone, Patel celebrated with an emotional message for his father. He displayed a handwritten note that read, “This is for you, Papa.”

CSK Complete Historic Chase

Chennai Super Kings finished the chase at 208 for 5 in 19 overs. The team recorded its first successful chase of more than 200 runs in eight years.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad supported the innings with a steady 42, while Jamie Overton also played a key role during the match. CSK now have 12 points from 10 matches and remain strongly in contention for the playoffs.

Patel later revealed that the coaching staff encouraged him to play naturally. Gaikwad also advised him to stay ready for the low bounce of the wicket.

The aggressive approach worked perfectly for the young batter, who transformed the game within a few overs.

Josh Inglis Dominated the Powerplay

Before CSK’s incredible chase, Lucknow Super Giants looked set for a massive total because of Josh Inglis. The Australian opener delivered one of the best powerplay performances in IPL history.

Inglis smashed 77 runs in the first six overs from only 25 balls. His innings included nine fours and six sixes. He attacked both spin and pace bowlers with confidence and creativity.

The explosive knock placed him fourth on the list of highest individual powerplay scores in IPL history. Only Suresh Raina, Travis Head, and Jake Fraser-McGurk have scored more during the field restrictions.

Overton and Noor Ahmad Changed the Match

CSK bowlers fought back strongly after the powerplay. Noor Ahmad and Jamie Overton slowed the scoring rate during the middle overs.

Noor Ahmad continued his impressive season with another important spell. He dismissed dangerous batters and controlled the run flow with accurate leg-spin bowling.

Jamie Overton delivered a disciplined spell and picked up three wickets for 36 runs. He removed Inglis at a critical moment and stopped Lucknow from reaching an even bigger total.

Shahbaz Ahmed later added valuable runs for LSG and helped the team cross the 200-run mark. However, Urvil Patel’s extraordinary innings eventually overshadowed every other performance.

A New Star Emerges for Chennai Super Kings

Urvil Patel played only his fourth match of IPL 2026, but his performance already looks season-defining for Chennai Super Kings. He got his opportunity after Ayush Mhatre suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the tournament.

Before this match, Patel had managed scores of 4, 24, and 17. His fearless innings against Lucknow Super Giants now places him among the most exciting young players in the IPL.

CSK fans have searched for a new match-winner in recent seasons. Patel may have finally announced himself as the franchise’s next big star.
