The Memphis Grizzlies have made one of the most intriguing moves of the NBA offseason by signing restricted free agent Quinten Post to a three-year, $30 million offer sheet. The move now puts pressure on the Golden State Warriors, who must decide whether to match the contract or allow the talented center to join Memphis.
The next 48 hours could shape both franchises’ frontcourt plans for the 2026-27 NBA season.
Why the Grizzlies Targeted Quinten Post
Memphis has been searching for more depth in the frontcourt. Although Zach Edey is expected to return next season, he continues to recover from ankle surgery. That situation increased the need for another reliable big man.
Post fits the Grizzlies’ system well. At seven feet tall, he stretches the floor with outside shooting while providing solid defensive positioning.
During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in only 17.3 minutes per game. He also started 35 games and continued to develop into an effective rotation player.
Even though his three-point percentage dropped to 33.6%, opponents still respected his shooting ability. A center who can consistently space the floor remains valuable in today’s NBA.
Warriors Must Decide Whether to Match
Golden State now holds the right to match Memphis’ offer sheet. If the Warriors match before the deadline, Post will remain in the Bay Area. Otherwise, he will officially become a member of the Grizzlies.
The decision is far from simple.
Golden State already committed significant resources to its frontcourt by bringing back veteran big men Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford. Those additions pushed Post lower on the depth chart despite his continued improvement.
Financial flexibility also plays an important role. The Warriors remain hard-capped because of recent free-agent moves. They are also expected to negotiate a new contract with Draymond Green while continuing to monitor other opportunities, including interest in LeBron James.
Matching a $30 million contract for a backup center may prove difficult under those financial conditions.

Quinten Post’s Rapid NBA Development
Post entered the NBA with little fanfare after Golden State selected him with the 52nd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
His growth has exceeded expectations.
He earned regular minutes midway through his rookie season and immediately impressed with his outside shooting. He connected on nearly 41% of his three-point attempts during his first year while giving the Warriors a modern stretch-five option.
His sophomore campaign showcased a different strength.
Although his outside accuracy declined, his defensive performance improved noticeably. Advanced analytics rated him as a productive defender, making him an attractive target during free agency.
Across two NBA seasons, Post has appeared in 109 games while making 49 starts. His combination of size, spacing, and defensive growth gives him considerable long-term upside.

How Post Fits the Grizzlies’ Rotation
If Golden State declines to match the offer sheet, Memphis will gain another versatile frontcourt player.
Post projects as an ideal backup behind Zach Edey while also providing lineup flexibility against smaller opponents. His ability to shoot from deep creates extra space for Memphis’ guards and wings to attack the basket.
The Grizzlies have also added Isaiah Stewart and drafted Cameron Boozer and Karim Lopez, creating one of the league’s deepest collections of young frontcourt talent.
However, those additions also create a roster challenge. Memphis currently has more players under contract than it can carry into the regular season. Additional trades or roster moves are expected before opening night.
Offer Sheets Have Become Increasingly Rare
Restricted free-agent offer sheets have become uncommon in today’s NBA.
Very few teams are willing to tie up salary cap space while waiting for another franchise to make its decision. Even fewer offer sheets exceed $5 million annually.
The last major example came in 2023 when Matisse Thybulle signed an offer sheet that Portland ultimately matched. The last player to actually change teams through an unmatched offer sheet was Bogdan Bogdanovic in 2020.
That history makes Post’s situation one of the most interesting storylines of this offseason.
Quinten Post has transformed himself from a late second-round draft pick into one of the NBA’s most intriguing young centers.
Memphis clearly believes he can become an important piece of its future. Golden State, meanwhile, must weigh his long-term potential against immediate financial constraints and roster priorities.
