The Detroit Free Press has officially opened voting for the Buffalo Wild Wings Prep Athlete of the Week, highlighting Michigan’s finest high school athletes. This weekly recognition celebrates both boys and girls who delivered impressive performances during November 2–8. Fans can cast their votes until noon on Friday, November 14.
Over the years, this event has become a proud tradition in Michigan. It allows schools, fans, and families to unite and cheer for the state’s most dedicated young competitors.
This week’s Boys Prep Athlete of the Week features three exceptional football players. Each one helped their teams shine during the MHSAA football playoffs with strong leadership and game-changing performances.

Lorenzo Barber led Orchard Lake St. Mary’s to a 35–14 win over Brother Rice in the District 2 championship on Nov. 7. The junior receiver totaled 91 receiving yards, two touchdowns, and 34 rushing yards on six carries. Moreover, he added a rushing touchdown, showing both power and versatility. His all-around play pushed the Eagletts toward victory.

Meanwhile, Michigan State commit Kayd Coffman guided East Kentwood to a thrilling 49–41 win over Howell in the Division 1 district title game. Coffman completed 16 of 22 passes for 372 yards and five touchdowns. In addition, he ran nine times for 96 yards, proving himself a dual-threat quarterback. His sharp passing and composure under pressure made all the difference.
Lastly, Cass Tech’s star C.J. Salder, the top senior in Michigan, was unstoppable during a 48–8 victory over Dearborn Fordson. He caught all three targets for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Furthermore, he scored a 68-yard punt return touchdown, sealing Cass Tech’s dominant win.

The Girls Prep Athlete of the Week poll features five extraordinary athletes—four volleyball players and one swimmer. Each one displayed dedication, precision, and athletic excellence during the same week.
Gabby DiVita, a top Miss Volleyball candidate, guided Grosse Pointe South to the regional semifinals after wins over Grosse Pointe North and Detroit Renaissance. She recorded 63 kills, averaging nine per set, while hitting .426. Additionally, she contributed 27 digs and four blocks, showing her balance between offense and defense.
Brenna Mirovsky, Oxford’s junior outside hitter, was key to the team’s first district title chase since 2002. She helped her team win two intense five-set matches against Lake Orion and Clarkston. Altogether, she posted 22 kills, 35 digs, three blocks, and seven assists. Her steady focus kept Oxford competitive in every set.
Kayla Nwabueze, another Miss Volleyball contender, powered Bloomfield Hills into the regional semifinals. She posted 35 kills, 13 digs, and three aces in one match, followed by 30 kills, 21 digs, and two blocks in the next. Consequently, her leadership and precision inspired her teammates throughout their historic run.
Senior swimmer Ashlyn Taylor led Carlson to a league title during the Downriver League Championship. She achieved personal bests in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.21) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.79). In doing so, Taylor proved her growth and consistency in the pool.
Finally, Eleanor Williams helped unranked Romeo shock No. 7 Utica Eisenhower with a 3–2 win. The junior right-side hitter recorded 35 kills, 21 digs, four blocks, and five aces in two matches. As a result, her power and poise led her team to one of the week’s biggest upsets.
