The New York Giants are entering Week 11 with massive organizational changes. According to multiple reports, the team has fired head coach Brian Daboll after a string of disappointing performances this season. In a surprising turn of events, the Giants will also start Jameis Winston at quarterback against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, marking his first appearance with Big Blue.
Brian Daboll’s tenure with the Giants has come to an abrupt end after a rocky start to the 2025 season. Once hailed as a promising coach following his impressive first year in New York, Daboll’s offense struggled to find consistency. The team’s inability to maintain momentum and produce points ultimately led to his dismissal.
The Giants front office has now turned to offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, who will assume interim coaching duties. Kafka’s primary challenge will be rejuvenating an offense that ranks among the lowest in the league in both passing and scoring.
With Daboll out, attention now shifts to the quarterback position. The New York Giants have officially named Jameis Winston their starting quarterback for Week 11. The veteran signal-caller, known for his big arm and aggressive playstyle, will lead the offense against the Packers.
Winston has spent the season buried on the depth chart behind Jaxson Dart and Russell Wilson. However, with Dart sidelined due to a concussion suffered in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears, and Wilson failing to impress in relief, the Giants have decided to give Winston the nod.
For Jameis Winston, this game represents an opportunity to revive his NFL career. Once a No. 1 overall draft pick, Winston has had a rollercoaster journey since leaving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019. That season, he led the league with 5,109 passing yards, but his 30 interceptions overshadowed his statistical achievements.
Since then, Winston has played for several teams, including the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns, without securing a long-term starting role. Last season with the Browns, Winston appeared in 12 games and started seven, finishing with 2,121 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Although the Browns went 2–7 in his starts, Winston showed flashes of his former potential.
This season has been nothing short of turbulent for the Giants’ quarterback situation. Rookie Jaxson Dart initially took the reins, showing promise before suffering a concussion against the Bears. Veteran Russell Wilson stepped in but failed to energize the offense, completing few passes and struggling with pocket awareness.
Now, the Giants are looking to Winston for stability and leadership. His experience, combined with Kafka’s offensive play-calling, might provide the spark New York needs to finish the season strong.
Winston’s first start in a Giants uniform will come against a Green Bay Packers defense that ranks near the middle of the pack in passing yards allowed. His performance will not only determine the Giants’ chances in Week 11 but could also influence the team’s long-term plans at quarterback.
“Every time I get a chance to step on the field, it’s a blessing,” Winston told reporters earlier this year. “I just want to lead, compete, and give my teammates everything I have.”
If Winston can limit turnovers and execute Kafka’s offense effectively, he could extend his tenure beyond a single start.

The Giants’ season has been riddled with injuries, underperformance, and instability. However, with a new coach and a new starting quarterback, the franchise has an opportunity to reset. Even if playoff hopes are slim, the final stretch of the season will be crucial for evaluating talent and establishing a new direction.
Fans will be eager to see whether Jameis Winston can reignite the offense and bring some energy back to MetLife Stadium. His aggressive style, coupled with a strong receiving corps, could create big-play opportunities that the Giants have been lacking all year.
The New York Giants are clearly embracing change as they move forward without Brian Daboll. By naming Jameis Winston the starter against the Packers, they’re signaling a willingness to experiment and search for solutions.
Whether this move leads to renewed success or further rebuilding remains to be seen. One thing is certain: all eyes will be on Winston as he takes the field in blue and white for the first time, ready to prove that he still belongs in the NFL spotlight.
