World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has officially ended his long and highly successful coaching partnership with Juan Carlos Ferrero, closing a defining chapter in modern men’s tennis. The announcement marks the end of a seven-year collaboration that transformed Alcaraz from a gifted teenager into the dominant force at the top of the ATP rankings.
Alcaraz confirmed the decision on Wednesday through a personal message shared on his social media platforms. Ferrero later responded with his own emotional statement, expressing gratitude for their journey and admitting he wished the partnership could have continued.
Ferrero began working with Alcaraz when the young Spaniard was just 15 years old. From the outset, the former world No. 1 recognized Alcaraz’s exceptional talent and competitive mindset. Together, they built a structured development plan that emphasized discipline, tactical intelligence, and physical resilience.
That long-term vision quickly delivered results. During their time together, Alcaraz captured six Grand Slam titles, including two French Open victories, two Wimbledon championships, and two US Open triumphs. He also collected 24 ATP tour-level titles, eight of which came at Masters 1000 events, firmly establishing himself as one of the most successful young players in tennis history.
“After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to bring our chapter as coach and player to an end,” Alcaraz wrote. “Thank you for turning childhood dreams into reality. We started this journey when I was barely a kid, and throughout all this time you’ve accompanied me on an incredible path, both on and off the court.”
One of the most significant milestones of their partnership came in 2022. Alcaraz won the US Open at just 19 years old and became the youngest player ever to reach No. 1 in the ATP rankings. That achievement highlighted Ferrero’s influence and validated the trust Alcaraz placed in his coach from an early age.
Since then, Alcaraz has continued to refine his game. His explosive forehand, improved serve, and fearless court coverage reflect a coaching philosophy that blends aggressive modern tennis with classic fundamentals. Ferrero consistently pushed Alcaraz to evolve, while also helping him handle the pressure that comes with global stardom.
Ferrero addressed the emotional nature of their separation in his statement. “Today is a difficult day,” he said. “Saying goodbye is never easy when so many shared experiences exist. We worked hard, grew together, and lived unforgettable moments.”

The announcement follows yet another outstanding season for Alcaraz. Earlier this year, Ferrero and assistant coach Samuel Lopez earned the ATP Coaches of the Year award after guiding Alcaraz back to the No. 1 ranking.
Alcaraz enjoyed the most productive year of his career, recording 71 match wins, the highest total on tour. He also claimed eight titles, including major victories at Roland-Garros and the US Open. One of the season’s standout moments came in Paris, where he defeated Jannik Sinner in the French Open final, further strengthening his grip on men’s tennis.
Despite the coaching change, Alcaraz has not yet confirmed whether he will appoint a new head coach. Lopez remains part of his team, but Alcaraz has chosen to keep his future plans private for now.
Although their professional partnership has ended, both men emphasized mutual respect and lasting appreciation. Ferrero expressed confidence in Alcaraz’s future and reflected positively on their shared journey. “We have been an incredible team despite the challenges,” he said. “I am sure you will continue to achieve great success. Good memories and good people always find a way to meet again.”
For Alcaraz, the decision signals the start of a new phase in an already remarkable career. At just 22 years old, he continues to lead men’s tennis with confidence, maturity, and ambition. The foundation Ferrero helped build will remain central to his approach as he moves forward.
As the tennis world looks ahead, fans and analysts alike will watch closely to see how Alcaraz evolves without the coach who shaped his rise. One thing remains certain: the legacy of their partnership will stand as one of the most influential player-coach relationships in the history of the ATP Tour.
