The Vegas Golden Knights have made another move before the NHL trade deadline. The team acquired veteran forward Nic Dowd from the Washington Capitals in a deal that strengthens Vegas’ depth for the playoff push. Both teams confirmed the trade on March 5, adding new assets and future draft picks to their rosters.

Details of the Golden Knights–Capitals Trade

The trade includes several assets moving between the two teams. Washington received a second-round pick in the 2029 NHL Draft, a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, and young goaltender Jesper Vikman. In return, Vegas secured veteran center Nic Dowd.

Capitals senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick officially announced the deal. The trade gives Washington valuable future draft capital while also adding a young goalie prospect to their system.

Dowd has played 506 games with Washington since the 2018–19 season, producing 166 points during that span. Across his entire NHL career, he has appeared in 637 games, registering 192 points.

The veteran was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the seventh round of the 2009 NHL Draft. Over the years, he has also played for the Vancouver Canucks before establishing himself as a dependable player in Washington.

Jesper Vikman Heads to Washington

As part of the trade, the Capitals also receive goaltender Jesper Vikman, a promising young netminder. The 23-year-old Swedish goalie was drafted by Vegas in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Draft.

This season, Vikman played with the Henderson Silver Knights, the Golden Knights’ American Hockey League affiliate. He recorded an 8-7-3 record, along with a 3.41 goals-against average and a .866 save percentage in 18 games.

Throughout his AHL career, Vikman has appeared in 41 games, posting a 16-18-5 record and a .880 save percentage. The 6-foot-4 goaltender adds depth to Washington’s developing goalie pipeline.

Before turning professional, Vikman played in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for the Vancouver Giants. During two seasons with the team, he posted a 36-36-3 record and a .903 save percentage. His strong performance earned him the BC Division First Team All-Star Goaltender honor during the 2022–23 season.

Golden Knights Continue Active Trade Deadline Strategy

The Dowd acquisition represents the latest move in a busy stretch for Vegas management. Earlier this season, the Golden Knights acquired defenseman Rasmus Andersson from the Calgary Flames. The team also added forward Craig Smith from the Nashville Predators.
