The Scottie Scheffler 3M Open debut has become one of the biggest stories on the PGA Tour this week. As the World No. 1 golfer arrived at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, excitement surrounding the tournament reached a new level. His first-ever appearance at the 3M Open has not only attracted larger crowds but has also led to a significant increase in ticket sales.
Tournament organizers believe Scheffler’s participation marks a historic moment for the event, which has steadily grown since its launch in 2019.
During a Tuesday practice round, Scottie Scheffler drew large galleries as fans gathered to watch him prepare for tournament play. His presence impressed both spectators and tournament officials.
According to 3M Open Executive Director Hollis Cavner, ticket sales have already increased by 25–30% compared to last year. Moreover, organizers expect attendance to climb even higher once walk-up ticket sales begin during tournament week.
Cavner described Scheffler’s commitment as the biggest player announcement in the tournament’s history. Although previous editions featured stars like Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, and Brooks Koepka, many of those appearances came before they became major champions.

Many golf fans were surprised when Scheffler committed to the tournament. Traditionally, the 3M Open follows the Open Championship, meaning most elite players choose to rest after a demanding stretch of international travel.
However, Scheffler explained that the tournament fit perfectly into his 2026 PGA Tour schedule.
After spending two weeks competing in the United Kingdom, he felt that taking three consecutive weeks off before the FedEx Cup Playoffs would not provide the best competitive preparation. Instead, adding the 3M Open allowed him to maintain momentum while avoiding an awkward tournament schedule later in the season.
As a result, the decision became more about long-term planning than simply adding another event to his calendar.
The announcement did not happen overnight. In fact, Cavner revealed that tournament officials had been encouraging Scheffler to play the event for several years.
Thanks to strong relationships with Scheffler’s agent, Blake Smith, and longtime coach Randy Smith, discussions continued until the timing finally aligned this season. Once Scheffler committed, organizers kept the news confidential for nearly a month before officially announcing it in May.
Naturally, anticipation quickly spread throughout the golfing community after the announcement became public.
Following his arrival in Minnesota, Scheffler spent Monday exploring downtown Minneapolis with his family before practicing the course.
He praised TPC Twin Cities, noting its combination of length, challenging par-4 holes, water hazards, and thick rough.
According to Scheffler, driving accuracy will play a critical role throughout the week. Players who consistently find the fairway will enjoy better scoring opportunities, while those missing fairways could face difficult recovery shots because of the demanding rough.
Consequently, course management and precision off the tee may prove just as important as distance.
Beyond the golf course itself, Scheffler highlighted the welcoming atmosphere surrounding the event. Tournament organizers have worked to create a family-friendly environment while providing excellent hospitality for players, caddies, and their families.
Cavner hopes Scheffler’s positive experience will encourage more top-ranked golfers to include the 3M Open in their future schedules.
Although the PGA Tour plans to introduce a new tournament structure beginning in 2028, the 3M Open remains under contract through 2030. While its long-term status is still uncertain, this year’s event demonstrates its ability to attract elite talent.
